A Poetry for a Song

Billy Holliday:

smoke fills the bar as people enter the room

her words penetrate me

sultry,deep,raspy,

lights seem to dance around her

i follow her lips with my eyes

so deeply red like a fresh apple

how can some one that beautiful

sing the blues

did she catch my eye just then?

was that smile for me?

could she possibly have guessed my thoughts

her gown is as red as her lips

it glitters like stars flicker

her words are my own

like she's pulling them from my heart

every one around is trapped in nonchalance

but i heard you just then

and for that moment

every thing was ok
